Examples of the floods and torrents that occurred in the downtown areas include the situation that affected the Kingdom on February 28, 2019 and caused major damage to the commercial sector and the death of a citizen, as well as the floods that occurred on January 9, 2020.
Among the areas that are also exposed to the risk of torrents and floods are the areas of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, due to their low elevation above sea level, which is considered the last place to which rainwater and torrents coming from the mountain highlands surrounding them reach. We remember the painful tragedy that occurred in the Dead Sea, when torrential rains killed Torrential rains resulted in the death of 22 people, including 19 children who were on a school trip in the Wadi Zarqa-Ma'in area on the afternoon of October 25, 2018.
If we take a look at the southern regions of the Kingdom, we find that these regions are vulnerable to the formation of torrential rains every year, especially during the fall period, during which instability occurs and which are usually concentrated in the southern and southeastern regions of the Kingdom, so that sudden rains usually fall there, which are sometimes very heavy. Causing floods and the flow of valleys there, due to the presence of the Sharah mountain range, which helps the rapid flow of rainwater, sometimes causing danger to property and lives.
