Learn about the advantages and disadvantages of winter tires
ArabiaWeather - Many seek to prepare their cars to face the rainy season and low temperatures in order to avoid any breakdowns or surprises that may occur while driving.
One of the most important equipment that car experts advise not to ignore is the replacement of summer tires with winter ones designed to deal with the weather in these months of the year.
Winter tires are distinguished from others by their ability to drain and expel the rainwater suspended in them through the inscriptions, paths and transverse lines spread in them, in contrast to the summer tires. With winter tires, according to Ian Robertson, a car expert for "Motor-1", the car can stop when braking on wet roads, at a distance of 4 to 7 meters less than other summer tires.
Robertson explains that the available inscriptions and bumps and tread depth of up to 4 mm in the winter tire raise the coefficient of friction between the car and the road, which helps in increasing the effectiveness of the brakes.
Winter tires also have the ability to work efficiently in low temperatures, as a special type of "rubber" is used to manufacture them, unlike summer tires that harden and crack at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius.
However, despite these advantages of the "winter tire", its use suffers from some defects. At the forefront of these disadvantages is its loud sound while driving, due to greater friction due to the protrusions spread in it.
The disadvantage of winter tires is that they contribute to the car's consumption of more fuel, due to the high coefficient of friction with the road. One of the main disadvantages of winter tires is that their purchase prices are 15 to 20% higher than summer tires.
