Important recommendations submitted by religious leaders to the climate summit scheduled for next month.. What did they recommend?
Arab Weather - With the escalation of climatic risks over the past decades, religious leaders are required to play a role in the environmental file, given their moral impact on millions of people, not only on the spiritual level, but also in their lifestyles and daily habits.
As a generation of young environmental activists sounded the alarm, religious institutions felt that they had a moral responsibility to affirm their position on protecting “God’s creation” and to push for a more equal world in which the poor would not bear the catastrophic consequences of the inability of rich countries to contain the deteriorating climate.
Based on this responsibility, a global symposium was held on Monday 4 October at the headquarters of the Vatican State under the title "Faith and Science towards the Global Climate Summit (COP 26)" that brought together experts on climate change with religious leaders of different faiths, led by the Sheikh of Al-Azhar on behalf of the nation. Islam, along with Pope Francis, and representatives of several Christian sects, Shiite Muslims, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, and others.
The aim of organizing this symposium, which was supervised by Pope Francesco, was to support global efforts to combat climate change, especially as the date of the World Summit on Climate Change is approaching, as it will be held during the month of November.
The following is the speech of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, during his participation in the Interfaith Leaders Summit for Climate Change:
