Arabia Weather - Sinan Khalaf - Arab Weather has received many questions about what satellite images and rain radar are monitoring now of the striking development of cumulus thunderclouds in the Red Sea off the coast of the city of Jeddah, and the questions revolve around the possibility of these clouds moving eastward towards the coast to affect the city. Jeddah, and we, in turn, directed the question to the forecasting staff, who responded with the following:

“Yes, the opportunity is possible, and we at ArabiaWeather are monitoring, in the meantime, renewed activity of cumulonimbus thunderstorm clouds in the Red Sea sky, specifically off the coast of Jeddah, amid preliminary indications of the possibility of these clouds moving eastward to affect the city of Jeddah at dawn and Sunday morning, to work on... Renewed rain, which is expected to be accompanied by lightning and thunder.
These weather fluctuations come in light of the deepening of the upper air depression in the high layers of the Kingdom’s atmosphere, coinciding with an influx of moisture with subtropical characteristics and a surface response to the Red Sea depression, which works to expand and renew the activity of thunderclouds in the sky of the region.
