Russian expert: Coronavirus has become seasonal

Arab Weather - Dr. Vitaly Zverev, Scientific Director of the Serum and Vaccine Research Center, announced that the Covid-19 virus no longer causes severe pneumonia as it did at the beginning of the pandemic. Zverev explained that the currently circulating variants of the coronavirus have begun to lose their potency over time, and the virus has begun to multiply in the upper respiratory tract, which reduces the likelihood of severe pneumonia.

Coronavirus adapts to the human body

Zverev points out that the virus has begun to adapt naturally to the human body. This process makes the virus less deadly, as it does not reach the lungs as it did before, which reduces its level of danger. He added that this adaptation is a natural feature of epidemics, as viruses seek to survive by not killing their carrier.

In his speech, Zverev pointed out that epidemics do not end with the death of all humans, but with the adaptation of viruses to the human body. For example, at the beginning of the 21st century, the SARS coronavirus, which caused severe acute respiratory syndrome, spread, but it quickly died out because it was more deadly than the Covid-19 virus and could not effectively adapt to humans.

COVID-19: A seasonal disease now?

Zverev explained that there is no need to fear, because the virus has become seasonal, similar to other viruses such as adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus and rhinovirus. This means that the virus may return annually, but without severe effects.

On the other hand, the Russian Consumer Protection Service announced that new strains of the novel coronavirus, such as KP.3 and LB.1 belonging to the FLiRT subline, have developed the ability to bypass the body's immunity, which increases the challenges of combating the virus.
