The researchers measured the effectiveness of different strategies to stop the spread of infection, determine the main way the virus spreads, and to determine the main transmission method. The researchers analyzed trends in infection rates in 3 epidemic hotspots: Wuhan in China, Italy, and New York City in the United States.

The researchers looked at measures to reduce the spread of infections that had been placed in those locations, such as extensive testing, quarantine, contact tracing, social spacing, and the use of mandatory face masks.
