Record and unprecedented temperatures witnessed in many cities of the world in July 2023

Weather of Arabia - Southern Europe and the Maghreb countries are witnessing a severe and exhausting heat wave, with which temperatures rose to unprecedented values and caused violent forest fires to break out in many regions, and thousands were evacuated after forest fires broke out in separate parts, according to the authorities.

The temperature also touched 49 degrees Celsius in Tunisia and Carthage, which is the highest temperature recorded in the history of its records as well. It also recorded 48.9 degrees Celsius in Bizerte, surpassing the previous record recorded in 1981, while it recorded 48.3 degrees Celsius in Enfidha, which exceeds the station number recorded in 2012.

And the effect of the heat wave was - and still is - severe on many countries in southern Europe, including Spain, Italy and Greece, where Rome recorded nearly 43 degrees Celsius, thus recording the highest temperature in its history in its climatic records, while Sardinia in Italy recorded about 48.2 degrees Celsius, which threatened the record for the highest temperature in history recorded in Europe, which was 48.8 in August 2021.

And the Greek meteorologist said that the country is witnessing the most severe heat wave in July in 50 years, and this led to the outbreak of violent fires and the evacuation of thousands of residents and tourists from the Greek island of Rhodes, where forest fires threaten populated areas.

On the Asian side, China recorded the highest temperature in the history of its climate records, exceeding 52 degrees Celsius in the Xinjiang region in western China, thus breaking the record set in Turpan in July 2017, when the temperature reached 50.6 degrees Celsius.

The Arab Levant is still spared record heat waves

The past weeks witnessed several parts of the Arab Mashreq, with temperatures rising above their normal rates, but they did not go much beyond their rates, as no city in the Mashreq recorded exceptional or record temperatures.
