Jordan Valley Authority: Providing farmers in the Jordan Valley with additional amounts of water during the heat wave
Weather of Arabia - The Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Manar Mahasneh, said on Friday that the authority will provide farmers in the agricultural areas of the Jordan Valley with quantities of additional water during the heat wave that is expected to affect Jordan, starting from Saturday.
Mahasneh explained to the "Kingdom" that the targeted areas are "the agricultural units in the Jordan Valley areas that extend from the northern Shunai to Deir Alla, the southern Shunai and the southern valleys," which need additional water during this period, and according to the agricultural pattern and the quantities of available water.
Jordan is affected, starting from Saturday, by a hot air mass, with temperatures continuing to rise, to record higher than the general rates for this time of the year by about (7-9) degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department, which expects this mass to continue until Monday.
Mahasneh explained that the water sources supplied to farmers are diverse, as "the southern valleys depend on the valleys and the Mujib Dam, while leaving the Tannour Dam as a strategic reserve at the end of the year."
As for the agricultural units in northern Jordan, they are supplied from the waters of Lake Tiberias, Al-Mukhaybah Wells and Al-Wahda Dam, according to Mahasneh, who said that the Deir Alla District and part of the agricultural units in the Northern Shuna and the Southern Shuna District depend on various dams, mainly on the King Talal Dam.
She talked about the preparation of the Jordan Valley Authority for a pre-summer plan called the "Summer Plan", which includes "leaving a strategic reserve for next year because we do not know what the rainy season will be like" and for emergencies such as heat waves.
The plan determines the quantities of water that will be used for several purposes, whether for agriculture, drinking or industry, according to Mahasneh
