Arab Weather - Astronomer Imad Mujahid, a fellow of the British Astronomical Society, said that the skies of the Arab world will witness a partial lunar eclipse on Wednesday , September 18 , which is the last eclipse of this year.

Lunar eclipse date

Mujahed explained that astronomical calculations indicate that the eclipse will begin at 5:13 a.m. KSA time, when the Earth's shadow begins to move on the eastern edge of the moon's disk. The eclipse will reach its peak at 5:45 a.m., when about 8% of the moon's disk will be within the Earth's shadow. The eclipse will end completely at 6:16 a.m.

Mujahed pointed out that the first stages of the eclipse will be visible in the Arabian Gulf and some areas of West Asia, while the eclipse stages will be seen at moonset in the Middle East, East Africa, and Europe. The eclipse will be visible in all its stages from beginning to end in West Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, and South America. As for North America and Canada, it can be seen in its final stages at moonrise.

Mujahed confirmed that the partial eclipse will last for one hour, two minutes and 47 seconds.

Mujahid added that the lunar eclipse is one of the distinctive natural astronomical phenomena that occurs when the moon enters the Earth's shadow during the full or full moon phase, when the Earth is between the sun and the moon in a straight line. He pointed out that the eclipse can be either partial when part of the moon enters the Earth's shadow, or total when the entire moon enters the shadow and turns a reddish-black color.
