The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) also confirmed that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Jordanian-Syrian border area on Friday, noting that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The center had revised its previous estimate of the quake's magnitude from 5.2 degrees.

In Syria, the National Earthquake Center reported that residents of the western city of Salamiyah felt the 4.8-magnitude earthquake, after another quake struck the area late Monday, causing panic and injuring dozens but no deaths.
