Cyclades .. the best for vacation among the islands of Greece
Arabiaweather.com - Ismail Kasimi - The Cyclades is the most famous group of islands in Greece, as all the islands in it are a wish to reach when moving between the Greek islands, a group located in the Aegean Sea to the southeast of mainland Greece.
There are about 220 islands within the group, many of which are too small to be placed on a map, and all of them are mountainous, with the exception of Milos and Santorini, which are volcanic islands.
There are some islands within this group that you must have heard of before, especially the famous Santorini island , as it is one of the most beautiful romantic destinations, as well as the island of Mykonos, which is known for its nightlife.
Less well-known is Tinos, a religious center of Greece, where visitors come to the church of Panagia Myalohari. Kea Island has the largest oak forest in the group, and is very popular with birdwatchers.
Recommended Cycladic museums
For those interested in learning about the Cycladic culture, the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens is a good source of information about the culture in these islands, and it also deals with the mineral wealth on the island of Milos.
In Santorini there are the ruins of ancient Thera and the Museum of Prehistory, and near Mykonos there is the island of Delos, which in itself is an open-air museum and is home to a group of the most important archaeological ruins in Greece.
Getting to the Cyclades Islands
In summer, there are many ferry trips to or between the Cyclades, which depart from the main port of Athens "Piraeus" or from the port of Rafina. In other seasons, fewer ferries operate.
Trips depart to the larger islands in the group, while the smaller ones can be reached by kayak, a type of water taxi that can be rented from the small ports on the islands.
There are airports on Naxos Island, Mykonos and Santorini that host charter flights, and other smaller airports on Paros, Milos and Syros.
