A kerosene greenhouse... more than heating during the winter in our homes
Weather of Arabia - Most Jordanian families want to meet during the cold winter nights around the kerosene greenhouse, where they have the opportunity to share beautiful memories, discuss daily events, and make important decisions, in an atmosphere characterized by intimacy and warmth.
This ancient custom is considered important for families, and preparation for it begins in the fall, when the kerosene greenhouse is maintained and kerosene is purchased to ensure its readiness for use. The greenhouse, the heater that relies on kerosene, is an essential tool for providing warmth for the family during the cold winter days that extend for several months.
Kerosene greenhouse: The most abundant and popular means of heating in Jordan
Trader Musa Al-Khawaja confirmed in an interview that residents in popular areas and camps tend to buy kerosene stoves, as it is considered the most efficient means of heating systems, as people benefit from its fuel during operation in many things, such as heating and cooking food and preparing tea and coffee, and it is characterized by its affordable price. Especially for those with limited income, it can be filled with appropriate quantities of kerosene according to income, and its maintenance is easy and inexpensive.
In the upscale areas of Amman, many families still use the kerosene greenhouse as a means of heating, as it arouses in them nostalgia for childhood days, and those were the times when large families and friends would gather around the greenhouse on cold winter nights to chat, eat roasted food, and drink tea.
Teacher Rasha Al-Qaisi points out the importance of the kerosene stove in her daily life, as it provides her and her family with the necessary warmth. She mentions the story of her husband, who tended to use a gas stove and install air conditioning at first, but over time he realized the importance of the kerosene stove in providing effective and appreciated warmth.
The development of shape and color in a kerosene greenhouse
The kerosene greenhouse has gained fame since ancient times thanks to its circular shape and attractive red color. Over time, this greenhouse has evolved into various shapes, sizes and colours. Despite this, it still maintains its distinction in terms of ease of moving it between rooms, in addition to the sturdiness of the stand located on top of the greenhouse. , making it suitable for a variety of family uses, and families can enjoy the burning fire to prepare tea and coffee, heat food, prepare cakes, roast chestnuts and sweet potatoes, as well as browning sandwiches for breakfast or dinner.
The kerosene greenhouse relies on the use of kerosene known as "kerosene", which is a hydrocarbon liquid extracted from petroleum, and is characterized by its ability to ignite and its distinctive smell. Kerosene, diluted with water, is sometimes used to clean floors to eliminate reptiles and to get rid of unpleasant odors.
On the other hand, an economic study issued by the Jordanian Electricity Regulatory Authority in 2009 showed that the kerosene greenhouse is the least expensive method by 59% for the citizen, and its average fuel consumption is about 0.3 to 0.8 liters per hour, which strengthens its position as an economical option for obtaining warmth. .
