New photos reveal Titanic disintegrating in Atlantic Ocean
Arab Weather - In the first expedition in many years to the Titanic wreck site, the company that owns the rights to explore the site has succeeded in finding a missing bronze statue that has not been seen for decades, after there were fears that it was lost forever. The Georgia-based RMS Titanic Company, which owns the legal rights to the 112-year-old wreck, concluded its first expedition since 2010, and on Monday published photos of the site showing the changes it has undergone over more than a century.
The trip comes amid investigations into the Titan submarine accident.
The trip to the remote North Atlantic site where the Titanic sank coincided with the ongoing U.S. Coast Guard investigation into the June 2023 explosion of the Titan, an experimental submarine operated by another company, that killed all five passengers, including Paul-Henri Nargeolet, director of underwater research for RMS Titanic.
In a statement from the company, the results of the summer voyage were described as “a bitter mixture of preservation and loss.” Among the most notable discoveries was the statue of Diana of Versailles, which had not been seen since 1986 and was now clearly visible. On the other hand, the company expressed regret for the collapse of a large section of the railing surrounding the ship’s bow deck, which was still standing until 2022.
Comprehensive site documentation and future plans
The team spent 20 days at the site, returning to Providence, Rhode Island, on August 9. During the trip, they captured more than 2 million high-resolution images of the site, the highest resolution to date. The team also created a comprehensive map of the wreck using state-of-the-art technology to better understand the location of the wreck. The company said the next step is to analyze the data and share it with the scientific community to identify historical artifacts at risk and recover them on future expeditions.
