Guatemala is one of the Central American countries, located south of Mexico, which borders it to the north and west, and has coasts on the Pacific Ocean in the southwest side and on the Caribbean in the eastern side.

Last September 15, the country celebrated the 195th anniversary of its independence from Spain, which was in the year 1821. Today, Guatemala is inhabited by about 16 million people, making it the most populous country in the Central American and Caribbean region.

Guatemala has a unique landscape of natural, biological and cultural diversity, as the former Mayan civilization was centered in Central America.
