طريقة استخراج الوقود تعتمد على اشباع مسحوق البنّ بمذيب عضوي ومن ثم تعريض المادة الناتجة لعدد من التفاعلات الكيميائية حتى استخلاص الوقود الحيوي .
ولم تتأثر نتيجة التجارب بالمنطقة الجغرافية التي أخذ منها البن ، حيث أجرى الباحثون تجاربهم على البن المأخوذ من 20 منطقة جغرافية مُختلفة دون اختلاف في النتائج . ويساوي مردود استخراج الوقود 20% من وزن البن . وعلى اعتبار أن إنتاج البن في العالم يساوي ثمان مليارات كيلوغرام سنوياً ، فإن الكمية التي يمكن الحصول عليها من الوقود الحيوي هي 1.6 مليار ليتر !
