A rare phenomenon...an amazing image of an icy corona surrounding the sun
Arabia Weather - NASA revealed an amazing snapshot of a unique phenomenon in Bavaria, southern Germany, where “ice halos” appeared in an exceptional manner.
This phenomenon is considered rare, as it arose as a result of the formation of frozen water crystals in the air. German photographer Bastian Werner captured this unique moment, describing it in a post on his Instagram account as an exceptional moment, and noted that he was crossing deep snow quickly when his attention was caught. Icy fog at the end of the photo shoot in St. Colman, and he concluded his post by saying that despite the challenges of the year that passed, he did not expect something so beautiful and unique.
A unique moment in Bavaria. An icy halo surrounds the sun
On Wednesday, NASA selected a unique shot to be featured on its astronomy website, known as Astronomy Image of the Day (APOD) , which features a new image every day, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The image represents a unique phenomenon as it shows icy fog in Bavaria, southern Germany, as a result of temperatures falling to very low levels, below zero degrees Celsius, which leads to the freezing of water in the air and turning it into ice, and thus we have a light fog.
Ice particles remain suspended in the air due to their light weight, and are characterized by their ability to absorb and reflect sunlight, which contributes to the creation of ice halos. The image shows two prominent ice halos, in addition to multiple arcs, including a horizontal arc parallel to the Earth's surface.
It indicates that the shapes of these optical phenomena can vary between rings, arcs, and even spots in the sky.
