Archaeologists discover the borders of the first capital of unified Egypt, `Memphis`
ArabiaWeather.com - Russian archaeologists specializing in Egyptian antiquities have discovered the borders of the capital of the ancient Egyptian state "Memphis", which the ancient Egyptians called the "white walls".
In press statements, the head of the Russian scientific mission, Galina Belova, described this discovery as historic, which they were able to reach after a long search that began in 2000.
Belova confirmed that at the beginning of this year, they were able to discover a fortified wall measuring 11 meters wide, dating back to the Sais dynasty, who used to imitate the rule of the ancient kings, and it surrounded the ancient Egyptian capital.
Under this wall, there are ruins dating back to an even older time, that is, to the era of the New Kingdom (years 1550-1069 BC). The excavation site was chosen near the ruins of the palace of the last Egyptian pharaoh of the Sais dynasty.
Memphis is the first capital of unified Egypt, founded in 3000 BC by the legendary King Menes.
