Palestine | Sanur Plain turns into a lake due to rainwater

Visitors enjoy exceptional moments, taking souvenir photos, and enjoying the stunning natural scenery, especially for those who live far from the sea and find it difficult to reach the occupied Palestinian coast, which is a few kilometers away from the city of Jenin.
However, this lake sometimes shows negative aspects. The water that fills Marj Sanur expresses the intensity of the rains, but at the same time it causes major problems for local farmers, as they face difficulties in cultivating and managing their lands.

When you visit the area, you will see on the main street extending along its length hundreds of citizens coming from different regions, coming to enjoy the beauty of “Lake Sanur,” as many call it, as the place turns into a popular tourist destination for visitors, where street vendors’ carts spread, including those who sell lupine, beans, and others. They serve hot drinks and fast food.
It is worth noting that the reasons for the formation of the lake are due to the low-lying nature of the land and its karst formation, which does not absorb large amounts of water.
Marj Sanur...a combination of beauty and inconvenience for agricultural land owners
The sight of “Lake Sanur” brings happiness and calm to many, but at the same time it raises anxiety and inconvenience to landowners in the region. Although the Sanur meadow is considered one of the most fertile plain lands, it is not used as it should be during the winter and summer seasons.
One of the farmers in the area points out how the plain used to grow legumes, grains and vegetables, but for more than twenty years, agriculture has become impossible and the problem is that the water submerges the crops and destroys them, leading to huge losses for farmers.

However, we must not forget that it also represents real challenges to landowners and farmers in the region, who face difficulties in fully exploiting it to grow crops.
