وفي فصل الصيف نلاحظ نشاط في نمو الشعر، وذلك لحماية جلد الرأس من الأشعة الفوق بنفسجية. وفي الخريف تدخل أغلبية الشعر مرحلة توقف النمو مؤقتاً، ويبلغ تساقط الشعر لدى النساء أوجه في أكتوبر. ومع ذلك، يشير العلماء إلى أن حلول الخريف ليس السبب الوحيد لتساقط الشعر فهناك اضطرابات أخرى في الجسم من شأنها التأثير على الشعر . كما أن تناول مستحضرات طبية معينة قد يتسبب في تساقط الشعر.
