The mosque was named after the late His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal - may God have mercy on him - and it is considered the largest mosque in the Kingdom. The mosque's architecture reflects the Umayyad character that is widespread in many locations in Jordan.
The mosque was commissioned by the late His Majesty King Abdullah I in 1924 on top of a very old mosque. The mosque is distinguished by its strategic location in the downtown area and its proximity to traditional markets and street food vendors.
The mosque, distinguished by its blue color, was built by His Majesty the late King Hussein bin Talal in memory of his grandfather. The mosque can accommodate approximately 7,000 worshipers inside and 3,000 in the outer courtyard.
The Ahl Al-Kahf site, which is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an in Surat Al-Kahf, is a historical religious site of great importance in Jordan, located outside the village of Al-Rajib in eastern Amman.
The Seven Sleepers are faithful boys who were persecuted by the Roman Emperor Trajan and then escaped into a cave where they slept for 309 years. Today, their graves are still visible inside the cave, where you can take a look inside the graves and see the skeletal remains of them and their dog. The cave is also surrounded by Byzantine and Roman ruins as well as a mosque – just as it was described in the Holy Quran.
