Weather of Arabia - The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has warned electric scooter users not to leave it in the sun for a long time, stressing that this may lead to a malfunction that will cause safety risks . Those wishing to acquire it should ensure that it conforms to the approved specifications in order to avoid violation.
The information indicates that exposure of the scooter to the heat of the sun causes damage to the scooter battery , and it can also lead to cracks in the rubber material in the wheels, and also to the drying of the resinous substance that fixes the rubber surface that extends over the board of the scooter designated for parking the driver.
The authority had announced that it had issued more than 38,000 permits within 3 months, starting with the launch of the electronic permit platform, which was designated by the authority to receive requests for electric scooter drivers wishing to drive within the authorized areas in the emirate.
The authority called on scooter users to ensure the standard specifications approved in the emirate, in order to avoid being exposed to a violation. Executive Council Resolution No. (13) for the year 2022 specified the technical specifications that must be provided in the bicycle and electric scooter, and they include a white headlight in the front, a red lamp and a red reflector in the back, an audio alert device installed on the steering wheel, and brakes on the front and rear tires, in addition to the presence of Proportionality between the tire sizes and the size of the bike, and that the tires are suitable for running on the road or path specified by the authority, and that the size of the bike is commensurate with the size of its rider.
The authority confirmed that users of shared electric scooters and personal electric scooters who wish to drive on designated streets must obtain a permit, adding that the permit is not mandatory for those wishing to use scooters in places other than the streets, such as bicycle paths or on the sidewalks specified by the authority. holders of a valid driver's license for vehicles, or an international driving license, are also excluded from the obligation to obtain a driving permit.
The authority called on all individuals to abide by the requirements and regulations when using the electric scooter in the paths designated for it, with the obligation to wear a helmet and safety jacket, avoid the use of mobile phones, make sure the road is clear, and not enter the places designated for pedestrians, while providing the electric scooter with reflective signs or stickers. This is to maintain the safety of the passenger and other road users.
