When did the Hijri date begin?

Muslims began to document the Hijri date in the 16th year of the Hijra in the month of Rabi 'al-Awwal, two and a half years after the succession of our master Omar bin al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him.
In the first of Muharram for the seventeenth year of the Hijra, it was the beginning of the first Hijri year.

What is the reason for the Hijri date?

Hijri history was not present at the beginning of Islam, but an occasion occurred at the time of the caliphate of our master Umar ibn al-Khattab in which Abu Musa al-Ash'ari wrote to our master Omar that he brought us books from you that have no history.
And they mentioned another incident that he raised to our master Umar ibn al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, a deed written in it for a man on the last religion that befell him in Sha'ban, so Omar, may God be pleased with him, said: Which Shaban? Is this year, or before, or after?
Umar, may God be pleased with him, gathered the Companions and consulted them, so some people said: Date the Persians as the Persians date those who possess their affairs, and the Companions thought that.
Some of them said: They dated the history of the Romans, and the Companions thought that.
Then some of them said: Date the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace -. Others said: They chronicled the migration of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
Our master Umar, may God be pleased with him, said: “Immigration has differentiated between right and wrong, so they dated it.”

Why did the Hijri year start in the month of Muharram?

The purpose of the beginning of the Hijri year at the beginning of the month of Muharram is for the first Hijri year in which the four sacred months (Muharram, Rajab, Dhu al-Qi'dah and Dhu al-Hijjah) are combined, and also because the month of Muharram is the month following the return of people from the Hajj, so the Hajj season is the season that People shed it, and they will return to start their business.
Umar, may God be pleased with him, consulted the Companions of which month would be the beginning of the year, if we determined that migration is the first year, and Omar and Uthman chose it to be from Muharram, since the beginning of the date is the year of the migration, and the beginning of the year is forbidden, and this is how Muslims have a date by which they can date.

What is the difference between the lunar year and the solar year?

• Due to the dependence of the Hijri calendar on the lunar months and the movement of the moon, the Hijri year advances each year by 11 days, so the Hijri months may fall in seasons that differ from the seasons in which they were named at the time of their adoption.
• The moon revolves around the earth, and from its rotation there is a lunar year, and the earth revolves around the sun, and from its rotation there is a solar year.
• The solar year consists of 365 days
• As for the lunar year, it consists of 354 days
• There is a difference between the lunar year and the solar year, which is 11 days / (ten nights).
• After careful calculation, three hundred solar years equals three hundred and nine lunar years, and they remained in their cave three hundred years and increased by nine Surat Al-Cave: 25

The Almighty said: The number of months with Allah is twelve months in the Book of Allah on the creation of the heavens and the earth, of which four are sacred values that religion, so wrong not yourselves therein and fight the infidels as all fight against you all and know that Allah is with the righteous} 36 repentance.
