The renewable energy sector provides 8 million new jobs globally

ArabiaWeather.com - Renewable energy sectors provide more than 8.1 million jobs around the world at present, an increase of about 5% over last year 2015, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The total number of jobs available in the renewable energy sector increased in 2015 globally, according to IRENA's report entitled "Annual Review - Renewable Energy and Jobs 2016". The report also predicted the addition of 1.3 million direct jobs in the field of large hydroelectric projects worldwide.

The continued growth of job opportunities in the renewable energy sector is crucial as it counters trends in the energy sector in general, according to IRENA's general manager, Adnan Amin.

He attributed this growth in the number of jobs in the renewable energy sector to the decrease in the costs of its technology, and he expected that this rise would continue in conjunction with the continuation of the investment momentum in the renewable energy sector and the pursuit of countries to achieve their goals that were agreed upon on the climate during the Paris Conference.

The report predicted that more than 24 million jobs will be created globally in the renewable energy sector by 2030, as a result of the accelerated pace of transformation that the energy sector is currently witnessing.

India, Japan, China, Brazil, the United States and Germany had the highest rates of employment within the renewable energy sectors in 2015, according to the report. The solar photovoltaic sector was the highest in recording the number of new jobs, equivalent to 2.8 million jobs.

While the liquid biofuels sector ranked second in the world in providing jobs, with 1.7 million jobs recorded, followed by the wind energy sector, which witnessed a 5% increase, to record 1.1 million jobs worldwide, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
