California.. the south of the state is at risk of mudslides after forest fires
Weather of Arabia - The fires, which firefighters are still trying to control in southern California, destroyed plants that were holding the soil in place and left a waxy layer in the ground that prevents water from leaking more than a few centimeters from the surface of the earth.
This raised scientists' fears of the danger of mudslides in those areas when heavy rains fall, especially in hilly areas.
One of the areas most likely to witness such a scenario is the area where the largest fire broke out, which is the (Thomas) fire, which destroyed about 234,000 acres and destroyed up to 700 homes in Ventura and Santa Barbara, according to "Reuters".
Once the fire is likely to be extinguished, Professor Nicholas Painter of the University of California will begin to build drainage basins and other facilities to prevent debris from filling up roads and apartment blocks before the rainy season begins .
The fire currently burning in the south of the state is considered one of the largest wildfires in the history of the state
