A polar air mass of very cold origin is affecting northern Saudi Arabia. This is when its effects will reach Riyadh.

Arab Weather - Weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said, based on advanced computer modeling, that the Kingdom will be affected, God willing, in the coming days, starting from its north on Saturday, February 22, 2025, by a very cold air mass of polar origin, and it will remain far from Riyadh until Monday/Tuesday night before it begins to reach the capital and the eastern regions, God willing, which will cause a sharp drop in temperatures.

Saturday: A cold wave affects the north of the Kingdom, while the weather is warm in Riyadh and the rest of the regions

During the daylight hours on Saturday, temperatures rise in the central and southern regions, and the weather is warm in the center of the Kingdom and Riyadh, while it is relatively hot in the south and the western coasts of the country, where temperatures touch the mid-30s Celsius in those areas, while reaching the high 20s Celsius in the capital, Riyadh. As for the northern regions, the cold wave begins to affect, so cold weather prevails in general with the appearance of clouds at different heights, and the winds are southwesterly and noticeably active on the highlands of the western Kingdom.

During the night hours of Saturday/Sunday, there will be a noticeable drop in temperatures in the northern regions and the weather will be very cold. In the rest of the regions, minimum temperatures will rise so that the weather will be less cold than it was in the previous days, and moderate to warm weather will prevail, God willing.

Sunday: The northern regions will be increasingly affected by the cold wave resulting from the flow of more cold polar winds.

During Sunday, temperatures in Riyadh will drop slightly compared to the previous day, and the weather will be moderate in the center of the Kingdom and Riyadh, while it will be relatively hot in the south and western coasts of the country. In the northern regions, the flow of cold polar winds will increase, and cold to very cold weather will prevail in general. With the appearance of clouds at different altitudes, the winds will be southwesterly, noticeably active on the highlands of the west of the Kingdom, while they will be northwesterly and moderate in speed in the center of the Kingdom.

During the night hours of Sunday/Monday, the weather will be very cold in the northern regions, with temperatures dropping to below zero degrees Celsius by about 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, especially in the border areas, and severe freezing will occur in those areas. While it will be cold in the central regions during the late night hours, and moderate in the southern regions and the western coasts.

Monday: The peak of the cold wave in the Kingdom, with very cold weather in the north, and very cold winds reaching Riyadh at night, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures.

On Monday, the weather will be very cold in the northern regions, while it will be moderate in the center of the Kingdom and Riyadh (which are still far from the effects of the cold polar air mass), and relatively hot in the south and the western coasts of the country. Clouds will appear at high altitudes, and winds will be variable in direction and moderate in speed, active on the highlands of the western Kingdom.

During Monday/Tuesday night, polar winds reach the capital Riyadh and cause a noticeable drop in temperatures by up to 14 degrees Celsius compared to daytime hours. The weather is very cold in the north of the country, while polar winds reach Riyadh and thus cause a sharp drop in temperatures and the weather turns very cold.

Tuesday: The cold wave arrives in the capital, Riyadh, and temperatures drop significantly compared to previous days.
