Jeffrey Revell, a professor of biology at the University of Washington, said in a statement:
“One of the most common questions I get asked is: What can I do to prevent mosquitoes from biting me? I used to say there are three main signals that attract mosquitoes: your breath, your sweat, and your skin temperature.” He added: "In this study, we found a fourth signal, which is color."

The study, released in 2022, was conducted by tracking the behaviors of female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Like all mosquitoes, only females drink blood, and Aedes aegypti bites can transmit diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya virus, and Zika that can lead to Death.
The researchers observed the insects' behavior in miniature test chambers filled with different odors and visual patterns, including a colored dot or a human hand. Without any odor stimulus, the mosquitoes largely ignored the dot at the bottom of the chamber regardless of its color. But when a spray of carbon dioxide was added, the mosquitoes flew toward dots that were red, orange, black, or cyan, and avoided those that were green, blue, or purple.
