What is global warming? How does global warming happen?
Weather of Arabia - What is global warming? How does global warming happen?
In this article, we will talk about the phenomenon of global warming , which in recent years has become frequent daily on satellite screens, news sites, and scientific research pages as one of the biggest problems facing our world.
The term global warming or the effect of the greenhouse ( The Greenhouse Effect ) in our common daily language refers to the phenomenon of higher global temperatures than normal.
As for the scientific concept or definition of global warming , it is a natural process that heats the Earth's surface. When the sun's energy reaches the Earth's atmosphere, one-third is reflected back into space, and two-thirds of the rays are absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases, or so-called greenhouse gases .
Greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, and some synthetic chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
The absorbed energy warms the atmosphere and the Earth's surface. This process, when within its natural limits, maintains the Earth's temperature at about 33 degrees Celsius, allowing life on Earth to exist.
The problem we are facing now is that human activities, especially the burning of fuel, increase the concentration of greenhouse gases, which increases the effect of global warming (Enhanced Greenhouse Effect), so the Earth's surface temperature rises above its natural rates, and this is called the Global Warming phenomenon or Climate Change .
How does global warming happen?
Here are the steps for the warming process:
- Solar radiation reaches the earth's atmosphere, some of it is reflected in space, and the rest of it is absorbed by the land and oceans, which leads to heating the earth.
- Heat radiates from Earth into space.
- Some of this heat is trapped by greenhouse gases (greenhouse gases) in the atmosphere, which keep the Earth warm enough to sustain life.
- Human activities such as fuel burning and industrial processes increase the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.
- Increased greenhouse gases lead to more heat traps, causing global warming.
