Government initiative to reduce working hours to 7 hours and suspend them on Fridays during the summer in this Arab country
Arab Weather - The Dubai Government Human Resources Department announced the pilot launch of the "Our Summer is Flexible" initiative, which aims to reduce working hours in government agencies during the summer. This initiative comes within the framework of supporting the requirements of government agencies and enhancing employee performance and quality of life by providing a flexible work environment.
In line with the vision of the "Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033
The initiative is in line with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which focuses on improving quality of life and making Dubai one of the world’s most preferred cities for living and working. Fifteen government entities are participating in the experiment, where working hours will be reduced to seven hours a day with work suspended on Fridays, from August 12 to September 30, 2024.
His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, confirmed that the initiative aims to support the balance between work and personal life, which contributes to improving the quality of life of employees, the sustainability of government resources, and enhancing Dubai’s global position.

Survey and analysis of initiative results
Before launching the initiative, the department conducted a survey to assess the opinions of entities on reducing working hours during the summer, and the proposal received wide support. During the initiative period, the department will provide the required support and monitor observations periodically, in order to submit a final report evaluating the results of the experiment and recommending the possibility of implementing it in the coming years.
