The daily change in temperature
Arabia Weather site - d. Jamal Al-Mousa
The difference between the maximum and minimum values of the temperature is called the daily temperature change range, and this range depends on the following:
- The extent of daily change over uncultivated lands is greater than the extent over cultivated lands.
- The extent of the daily change over the land surface is greater than the extent over the water surface, and the extent over the seas is very little and may reach one degree Celcius.
- The extent of the daily temperature change in the case of clouds is less than the range in clear days, because the clouds work to limit the increase in temperature during the day and limit its decrease during the night.
- The extent of the daily change in temperature decreases as we move away from the surface of the earth and it disappears approximately after a height of 2 km above the surface of the earth, because the farther we move from the surface of the earth, the less thermal effect is reached by convection and conduction.
- The extent of the daily change in the surface air temperature is affected by the nature of the surface and the ability of its constituent materials to conduct heat to and from this surface. However, the nature of the land adjacent to a particular surface is also important, as the temperature in a particular place can be affected by warm or cold winds from Nearby areas.
Example:
Cooling of the earth's surface occurs during the night as a result of radiation, and then the air near the surface of the earth cools and becomes more dense.
The opposite of this effect occurs during the day when the rising surface winds blow the anabatic winds up the inclined surface as they are replaced by the cooler and denser air.
