Last year's square, the Kingdom was affected by 5 classified air depressions.
Arab Weather - The winter square of the 2024/2025 season is about to end, and the Kingdom has not been affected by any winter weather conditions or classified air depressions. Despite the rainfall in some periods since the beginning of the current winter square until the date of writing this report, the weather conditions that affected the Kingdom are considered secondary cases, mostly resulting from cases of atmospheric instability and an extension of the Red Sea depression.
The winter square of the 2023/2024 season was completely different from what it is now
Returning to the archive of weather conditions in “Arab Weather”, we find that last year’s winter square or the 2023/2024 winter season is completely different from the current square, as last year’s square began with wintery and rainy weather and the weather conditions continued later and the Kingdom was affected by 5 air depressions classified according to the classification scale of “Arab Weather”, and they were as follows:
- Category 2 depression on December 23, 2023
- Category 2 depression on January 10, 2024
- Category 1 depression on January 23, 2024
- Category 3 depression on January 26, 2024
- Category 2 depression on January 28, 2024
Why has the Kingdom not been affected by classified air depressions so far?
The experts at "Arab Weather" explain that the reason for the absence of classified air depressions and winter conditions in the Kingdom until now is due, after God's will, to the concentration of cold and humid air masses in the west of the European continent and the countries of the Maghreb.
While the region was dominated by high-pressure areas from the south and the extension of the Siberian high from the east, it acted as a barrier to prevent low-pressure areas from deepening into the region.
The scientific reason for this is attributed to the weakness of the polar vortex and the control of high-pressure air over the North Pole, which led to the dispersion of the polar jet stream and its concentration in certain areas and not others.
