Egyptian farmers depend on bioenergy in their farms
ArabiaWeather.com - Khetam Amer - A number of Egyptian farmers are currently using bioenergy as an environmentally friendly and cost-saving way to fertilize their farms and provide cooking gas for their homes and other life uses.
To date, more than 1,000 biogas units have been established in about 18 Egyptian governorates, according to the Bioenergy Project for Sustainable Rural Development, which was launched in 2013.
Bioenergy is produced from the wastes of animals and agricultural crops, which are converted by bacteria in the reservoir into methane gas. After the methane gas is produced, the waste residues are converted into fertilizer to be used in fertilizing agricultural lands. This in turn preserves the environment, reduces the use of chemical fertilizers, and improves the quality of crops.
A unit of biogas costs about $560, but it can save money on your gas bill in the long run. The project has so far trained more than 35 engineers and 40 workers, which has led to the establishment of 20 companies specialized in building biogas units in Egypt.
