Egypt | A yacht carrying Saudis and Egyptians sank during a trip in the Nile
Weather of Arabia - A tourist yacht, with 14 Egyptian and Saudi passengers on board, sank in the waters of the Nile River between the Qasr al-Nil and Old Cairo areas.
The Old Misr Police Department received a notification from Al-Qasr Al-Ainy Hospital reporting the arrival of injured and deceased people as a result of the accident that occurred on the Great Branch of the Nile River, near the Fountain and the Sofitel Hotel.
Details of the accident
Details of the incident indicate that an Egyptian family was hosting its Saudi relatives on a river trip, where they boarded the yacht for a picnic. However, the yacht, which had an expired license and was small in size and could only carry 4 people, sank after its balance was lost and its bow fell into the water, which led to it filling with water and sinking.
The accident resulted in 4 Saudis and 5 Egyptians suffering from suffocation, and their health condition has improved. The incident also resulted in the death of two Egyptians, while a search is currently underway for 3 people missing in the water.
Initial investigations revealed that the yacht did not have licenses to operate in the region, and that the driver did not possess the necessary documents.
