Egypt and the UAE win hosting the next two sessions of the Conference of the States Parties COP27 and COP28

Weather of Arabia - The General Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change officially announced that Egypt and the UAE won the hosting of the 27th and 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) in 2022 and 2023 , which is the most important and largest international conference on climate action with the participation of world leaders and leaders.

The announcement came at the conclusion of two-week intensive activities, in which about 200 countries participated in taking joint measures to put an end to greenhouse gas emissions globally, and to unify efforts to reduce the repercussions of climate change.

Egypt wins bid to host the 2022 COP 27 climate summit

Egypt will officially host the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention “COP 27” in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2022. The announcement came during the closing session of the “COP 26” Glasgow Conference, which concluded its activities in Scotland.

In her speech at the Glasgow Conference on behalf of the Egyptian government, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, the Egyptian Minister of Environment, emphasized that "COP 27" will be a true African conference, where we hope to make progress in priority areas such as climate financing, adaptation and loss and damage, to keep pace with the progress that the world hopes to achieve in Mitigation and carbon neutrality efforts.

She indicated the commitment of the next presidency in Egypt to carry the torch and build on the successes achieved by the current presidency, as Egypt will start coordination as soon as possible to ensure the smooth transition of the negotiation process and the path of parallel initiatives and pledges.

The Minister of Environment stressed Egypt's commitment to everyone, working to build bridges of cooperation, remove differences and find common ground that helps to agree and progress on the critical issues at hand, as Egypt takes upon itself to make every effort to achieve success in "COP 27" in facing this challenge that threatens the entire world, and will spare no effort to make COP 27 hospitable and constructive for all.

The Egyptian Minister of Environment welcomed all parties to meet next year at COP 27 in the charming city of Sharm El-Sheikh, to exchange ideas and visions and work hard to reach fair, balanced and comprehensive decisions to expedite taking real steps in the course of confronting the effects of climate change, and to help the developing and African countries and the most affected ones to start quickly their procedures to cope and adapt.

The UAE won the bid to host the Climate Summit "COP 28" in conjunction with the country's golden jubilee

The announcement of the UAE’s hosting of the Climate Summit “COP 28” in 2023 came in conjunction with the country’s preparations to celebrate the golden jubilee. On this occasion, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, said: “The founding father was keen on protecting the environment, and his approach constituted a catalyst. A source of inspiration for the progress we have made in the field of environment and the development and diversification of the economy over the past 50 years, and this legacy will remain a beacon to us in our endeavors to ensure the well-being of the generations of today and tomorrow.”

He continued, "We seek to make the Conference of the Parties "COP 28" a forum for solutions, and I am confident that our young and open country will be able, through its deep experience, to push towards finding practical solutions to the most pressing global challenges."

He stressed, "We look forward to welcoming the world to the UAE during COP28 to enhance the spirit of positive action that we are witnessing today, and we will make sure to amplify the voice of each country to ensure the reduction of global warming effects and open new horizons of opportunities that bring more growth, prosperity and progress towards building a better life." for future generations.”
