A polar wave accompanied by heavy snowfall affects southern Europe, and the effects extend to the Maghreb countries
Arab Weather - Weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest data from what is called computer simulation indicates that important areas in the northeastern Atlantic region will be affected, forcing a polar air mass of very cold origin to surround it and rush towards central and southern Europe, accompanied by heavy snowfall over several areas amidst a very cold winter atmosphere.
A polar wave accompanied by heavy snowfall will affect southern Europe starting today
In detail, a polar air mass of very cold origin, loaded with large amounts of moisture, is rushing towards central and southern Europe starting today and for several days, leading to the formation of a deep low pressure centered over Italy and continuing to rotate around itself for several days, which means that it continues to gain the necessary moisture and nutrition from the surface temperature of the Mediterranean Sea, which is considered very warm compared to the temperature of the layer with the air mass.
As a result, several cold air fronts are formed, accompanied by strong winds with speeds exceeding 100 km/h, causing severe wave disturbance. Heavy rains also fall on many coastal and low-lying areas, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, leading to the formation of torrents and floods.
While the rain will be in the form of heavy snow over most of the European mountainous heights, including the highlands, where snow will fall for several days and will be heavy and accumulating, the snow will include the highlands of Spain, Italy and France, and will extend towards the Balkan highlands. It is not unlikely that the snow thickness will reach about a meter over some peaks, especially those located between France and Spain.
The effects of the weather system affect the Maghreb countries, and the chances of snow include the peaks of Algeria
Due to the proximity of the center of the low pressure system and the accompanying polar air mass, the effects of the weather system extend towards northern Algeria and Tunisia, where temperatures drop, winds become active, and waves become turbulent on the coasts. Cold and rainy winter weather prevails at times, with heavy thunderstorms at times. As a result of the significant cooling of the air mass, the opportunity for snow to fall on the peaks of the high mountains in northern Algeria is created.
Stable weather and temperatures above average in the eastern Mediterranean
As a result of the cold winds rushing towards the aforementioned regions, it leads to the displacement of warm winds towards the eastern Mediterranean countries, which results in a delay in rainfall and the control of high-pressure systems that prevent the advance of winter depressions towards the region.
The weather system does not bode well for any imminent change in the shape of weather systems, as the strong high pressure system continues to control the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula, and temperatures are higher than their average for this time of year.
And God knows best.
