ICRI Global Coral Reef Initiative Date in Saudi Arabia
Arab Weather - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hosting the 38th International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) meeting in Jeddah from September 9 to 13. Experts, researchers and decision-makers from inside and outside Saudi Arabia are participating in this event, with the aim of exchanging experiences and knowledge and discussing future trends and current challenges in protecting coral reefs.
Global Coral Reef Initiative
The initiative includes 45 countries, covering about 75% of the world’s coral reefs. ICRI is an international platform that aims to protect and conserve coral reefs and diverse marine ecosystems. The meeting focuses on strengthening efforts to protect coral reefs from threats, including climate change, pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices , as well as blue economy activities.

Strengthening international cooperation
The meeting also aims to enhance cooperation between governments, NGOs, and private companies to address the challenges threatening coral reefs. This includes regulating blue economy activities to achieve a balance between environmental sustainability and economic development, as well as building and empowering human capacity through training and knowledge exchange between scientists and decision-makers.

Raising community awareness
The meeting also aims to raise community awareness of the importance of coral reefs and their vital role in promoting biodiversity and the blue economy, by developing more effective mechanisms to protect them at the global level.
