Earlier, the International Astronomy Center published predictions regarding the date of Eid al-Adha 2024 in the Islamic world, which stated:
Difference in the date of Eid al-Adha
The International Astronomy Center revealed in a statement through its official account on the social networking site “X” (formerly Twitter), that many Islamic countries began the month of Dhul-Qa’dah on Friday, May 10, 2024 AD, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Morocco, and Ghana, and these countries will investigate. The crescent of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah is on Friday, June 7, and thus the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah will be either Saturday, June 08, or Sunday, June 09, and the first day of Eid al-Adha 2024 will be either Monday, June 17, or Tuesday, June 18.
The center explained that seeing the crescent on Friday, June 7, is possible with the naked eye in most countries of the world, so it is expected that all of these countries will begin the month of Dhu al-Hijjah on Saturday, June 8, and Monday, June 17, will be the first day of Eid al-Adha 2024.
The International Astronomy Center added that the majority of Islamic countries began the month of Dhu al-Qa`dah on Thursday, May 9, and will observe the crescent of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah on Thursday, June 06. Thus, the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah will be either Friday, June 7, or Saturday, June 8, and it will be the first day of Eid al-Adha. 2024 is either Sunday, June 16, or Monday, June 17.
The center indicated that the moon on Thursday, June 6, will set several minutes after sunset in most parts of the Islamic world, so it is likely that many of these countries will begin the month of Dhu al-Hijjah on Friday, June 7, making Sunday, June 16, the first day of Eid al-Adha 2024 in them. .
The date of Eid al-Adha and adherence to what Saudi Arabia announces
In statements to the Saudi media, Engineer Muhammad Shawkat Odeh, Director of the International Astronomy Center, said that a number of Islamic countries rely on their local vision to determine the beginning of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah and Eid al-Adha, and do not follow any other country. Among these countries are:
Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Oman, Morocco, Mauritania, Turkey, and most non-Arab Islamic countries in Africa.
Odeh explained that for Hajj, all pilgrims must adhere to what is officially announced in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As for the date of Eid al-Adha in Islamic countries, he pointed out that there is a section of jurists who believe that there is no difference between Dhul-Hijjah and other months, and that the date of Eid al-Adha may differ between Islamic countries based on the local sighting of the crescent.
