موقع ArabiaWeather.com- توقعت دراسة حديثة نشرت نتائجها في دورية البحوث البيئية، أن الوقت الذي ستحتاجه الرحلات الجوية المتجهة من أوروبا إلى أمريكا الشمالية سيكون أطول قليلا؛ نتيجة لتأثير تغير المناخ الذي أدى إلى تزايد قوة الرياح على الارتفاعات الشاهقة على نطاق كبير.
وذهبت الدراسة إلى أن ذلك سيؤدي إلى ارتفاع تكاليف الوقود التي تتحملها شركات الطيران؛ فالرياح العكسية التي ستواجه الطائرات ستعمل على زيادة زمن الرحلات الجوية المتجهة غربًا حوالي خمس دقائق، وهذا الزمن يزيد بشكل قليل عن الوقت في الاتجاه العكسي إلى أوروبا مع رياح مواتية.
وذكر العالم بول وليامز من جامعة ريدنج، أن الزيادة في زمن الرحلات الجوية سيكون ألفي ساعة إضافية للزمن السنوي للرحلات، فضلًا عن زيادة مقدارها 33 مليون لتر من الوقود في حال كان عدد الرحلات الجوية عبر الأطلسي يبلغ نحو 600 رحلة يوميًا، وفقًا لـ "رويتز".
