Has climate change started in Saudi Arabia, or is it an exceptional, passing season? .. the predicate answers
Weather of Arabia - Associate Professor of Climate, Department of Geography, Qassim University, founder and head of the Committee for Naming Climate Cases, Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, revealed the correctness of describing this year's rainy season as "climate change."
Saudi Arabia between the exceptional rainy season and climate change
And Al-Musnad stated that “it is correct that climate change does not occur within one season or a year, but rather climate change occurs gradually, and over a long period of time, and may continue for a few decades, and this is from God’s mercy to humans and animals, and to preserve plants so that life can adapt to New Climate Rhythms".
Dr. Al-Misnad indicated that natural climate change is not rapid, unless there is an extraneous effect such as the eruption of great volcanoes, for example, or the impact of a large meteorite on the surface of the earth. Accordingly, what happened during the rainy season of 1444 (2022-2023) falls under the name of rare weather conditions.
He said: "The current rainy season was distinguished by four combined features that rarely recur, which are the succession of heavy rainy cases until the writing of this report in early June, the vastness of the vast and wide spring, the scarcity of dust storms, and the moderate temperature of the winter and spring seasons."
So did climate change begin in Saudi Arabia?
He pointed out that the season has become the talk of people in most regions, and this has happened in previous seasons, but as I mentioned it is rare.
And he continued: “We cannot describe what is happening as a revolution in the atmosphere, and a change in the climate depending on one season. Rather, the issue needs to follow up on the behavior and rhythms of the weather during the next 5-10 years. Or that the weather returns as it was and there are no signs of climate change recorded, and God knows best.
