Will the 2030 World Cup be held in Saudi Arabia?
Arab Weather - The honor of hosting the 2030 World Cup may be about to move from Spain to Saudi Arabia, according to a prominent journalist. This comes after FIFA approved the joint bid between Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to host the global event, but things may change soon.
Joint file to organize the 2030 World Cup
Earlier, the FIFA Council approved that the joint file between Morocco, Portugal and Spain would be the only option to organize the 2030 World Cup. This file was a strong candidate due to the cooperation between the three countries to organize the tournament.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia has submitted its file to organize the 2034 edition, and FIFA is expected to announce the final decision in this regard on December 11. However, recent news indicates the possibility of changing the destination of the 2030 World Cup itself.
Journalist Jose Felix Diaz of the Spanish newspaper "Marca" confirmed, in an interview on the program "Our League is Different" on the "Saudi" channel, that FIFA may withdraw the organization of the 2030 World Cup from Spain and grant it to Saudi Arabia. Diaz attributed this expectation to the issues of racism and the crises that the Spanish Football Federation is suffering from.
“I personally think that Saudi Arabia will host the 2030 World Cup and take it away from Spain because of racism,” Diaz said. He added that the Saudi project had convinced everyone, and that the crises facing the Spanish Football Federation, including corruption cases and the 14-month vacancy of the federation’s presidency, could push FIFA to move the tournament to Saudi Arabia.
Diaz indicated that the situation in the Spanish Federation is "abnormal" and confusing, which increases the possibility of moving the tournament to another location.
The prospects have also been boosted by growing complaints of racism in Spain. Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has led a campaign to draw attention to racism in Spanish stadiums, and has called for the 2030 World Cup to be moved to another country if the problems persist.
With the Spanish Football Federation still in crisis and complaints of racism increasing, the world of football could see an unexpected development in the form of the transfer of the honor of hosting the 2030 World Cup from Spain to Saudi Arabia. With FIFA’s final announcement approaching in December, it remains an open question whether this change will actually happen, and what it will entail in the near future.
