Solar and Moon Phenomena
In 2024, the planet Earth will witness two solar eclipses, but unfortunately these phenomena will not be visible in the Arab world. The first, which occurred on April 8, is a total eclipse visible in North America, and the second, which will occur on October 2, is an annular eclipse visible in southern South America.
As for the lunar eclipse, at dawn on September 18, the Arab countries will witness a partial eclipse that begins at 05:12 AM Mecca time, as the illuminated side of the moon erodes until it reaches its maximum at 05:44 AM.
Giant Moon
The supermoon phenomenon is one of the most attractive astronomical phenomena, as the moon appears larger and brighter than usual when the full moon phase coincides with the closest point of the moon to the Earth. In 2024, the Arab world will witness three supermoons:
The first is on September 18, the second is on October 17, and the third is on November 15. You can enjoy watching the moon after sunset and throughout the night during these days.

You may see a meteor or two on normal nights, but during meteor shower seasons, the numbers can reach more than a hundred meteors per hour. This happens when the Earth passes through the remnants of a comet or asteroid, which burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere. In 2024, the main shower in the Arab world will see the Perseid meteor shower peak on the evening of August 12, when you may see 90 to 100 meteors per hour in remote areas.
