وقد يتخيل الكثيرون الحمم البركانية على أنها مادّة سائلة شديدة السخونة ولكنها في الواقع مادّة لدنة (مائعة)، إذ إن الدوس عليها لا يُشبه الدوس على مادّة سائلة بحتة مثل المياه، بل إن أقدامنا ستغوص لحدّ مُعين في المادّة وتحترق.
