Aceh... when tourism is born from the tsunami disaster

Aceh is known for its preservation of the application of Islamic law in its own laws, and it is famous for its great mosque, the "Bayt al-Rahman Mosque", which was built in 1612 AD.

Aceh also has a group of beautiful beaches and Sabang is one of the best diving destinations in Indonesia. One of the beautiful beaches on the west coast of Banda Aceh is Lampu, which is located on a three-kilometer long bay.

Along the bay from the west coast, we can find many other beautiful beaches along the main street from Banda Aceh to Meulapoh.

In the rocky hills known as Gunung Groto, one can get a breathtaking view , where we can see the western coast of Aceh by the Indian Ocean and remember the tsunami and how some people managed to survive because they stayed in this hill.

The new tourist spot in Banda Aceh is the Tsunami Museum, which is a unique building that combines modern architecture with traditional houses, and presents the museum as a place to educate the public about the tsunami disaster.

It is noteworthy that the natural disaster, the tsunami that hit Banda Aceh more violently than anywhere else, left some tragic effects that are today landmarks of remembrance such as: the PLTD Apung Monument and a boat on the roof of a house, and both places are very well cared for, and from them you can imagine what the tsunami was like strong.

There is also a typical Acehnese village called a kampung, which has the atmosphere of a traditional house on stilts known as an Acehnese rumah.

Buying Acehnese embroideries is a must, as unique Acehnese motifs are embroidered on bags, wallets, clothes, hats and a lot of souvenirs. This local specialty is available in the souvenir shops you can find all over Banda Aceh.
