During the past two weeks, control teams were able to confront large influxes of yellow desert locusts, using existing control bases in Halayeb, Shalatin, and Abu Ramad, with support from teams from Qena and Aswan governorates.

Providing support in combating locust swarms

Abdeen Saeed, head of the city of Halayeb in the Red Sea, confirmed the arrival of a representative from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to assess the situation and provide support. Saeed explained that the control teams were able to reach depths of 50 kilometers into the mountains, starting from the coastal road, and are working to besiege and combat the mobile swarms. effectively.

He stressed that there are joint efforts between various parties to confront this challenge, as coordination is being made between local authorities, the Ministry of Agriculture and international institutions of interest to confront these swarms and reduce their negative impact on farmers and the local community.

Currently, efforts are continuing to confront these swarms with all available means, and committees have been formed to follow up on developments and ensure the effectiveness of the response to this changing natural phenomenon.
