The oldest mothers in the world...a 70-year-old woman gives birth to twins

Weather of Arabia - In an extremely rare incident, a 70-year- old Ugandan woman gave birth to twins after undergoing fertility treatment, making her one of the oldest mothers in the world, and the spokesman for the Women’s Hospital, Arthur Matsiko, reported that Safina Namukwaya gave birth to a boy and a girl via cesarean section in The capital, Kampala, after she received artificial insemination treatment, according to the American newspaper New York Post, and indicated that the mother is in good health, and was able to walk around the hospital two or three days after giving birth to the twins.

The oldest mother in Africa gave birth to twins at the age of 70

Dr Edward Tamale Sally, a fertility specialist at International Women's Hospital and Fertility Centre, said the mother used donor eggs and sperm from her husband for the IVF procedure.

The babies were born at 31 weeks, were placed in incubators, and their condition is currently considered “stable,” according to Dr. Sally.

“Giving birth is a unique achievement, especially after the mother, Safina Namukwaya, achieved this amazing feat.”

In a statement to the media, Namukwaya said her pregnancy was difficult because her husband abandoned her when he found out she was pregnant with twins.

This is the second birth for Ms. Namukwaya in three years, as she wanted to have children after being ridiculed for not having children earlier. The use of artificial insemination contributed to achieving this dream, which is a process that includes removing the egg and fertilizing it in the laboratory before placing it in the woman’s uterus for growth and development.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time such an event has occurred, as a 73-year- old Indian woman gave birth to twins in 2019, proving the possibility of achieving childbearing in advanced years thanks to advanced medical technologies.
