Arab Weather - The latest readings from the so-called advanced computer simulation at the Arab Weather Center indicate that a change in the shape of weather systems is being monitored throughout the eastern Mediterranean basin, including Iraq. The computer simulation shows the rush of a very cold, polar air mass towards southern Europe and Turkey, moving towards the Levant and Iraq, on February 4 and 5, 2025.
In detail, the initial computer simulation shows that Iraq will be affected, God willing, starting on Wednesday, February 5, with a low pressure system pushing warmer air currents than usual, so temperatures will rise and the weather will be moderate with active wind speeds that will cause dust and dirt, and clouds will increase in the northern and western regions with the possibility of showers of rain falling on parts of those regions, which may sometimes be accompanied by thunder.
According to initial forecasts, the low pressure system will cross Iraq’s skies on Thursday, and a highly effective cold air front will cross the country, causing a radical change in the weather conditions in the form of a sharp drop in temperatures and a change in the atmosphere to a cold, cloudy and rainy winter in various northern and central regions, including the capital Baghdad. Active westerly to southwesterly winds will blow with strong gusts that will stir up dust and sandstorms in many regions.
Regarding the issue of snowfall, weather experts at the Arab Weather Center said that the low pressure system will be accompanied by the infiltration of polar winds that will allow snowfall on many mountainous heights in the north of the country. However, it is difficult to make a judgment now regarding the areas exposed to snow, but preference will be given to the mountain peaks in the border areas with Turkey and Iran, with the possibility that other mountainous heights will receive some snowfall. Details will be issued later.
On Thursday/Friday night and Friday day, the polar air mass moves southward, pushing very cold winds towards all parts of Iraq, where temperatures drop to very cold levels in all parts of the country, with frost forming in large areas of the country, and ice forming on wet roads amidst unusual conditions that Iraq has witnessed, and Siberian polar temperatures par excellence.
The low pressure system is expected to precede the weather system with temperatures around to slightly above average for this time of year. The weather will be pleasant in the northern and western regions, while it will be moderate in the rest of the regions, with temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius in the capital Amman. The winds will be northwesterly and moderate in speed.
God knows best.
