Where did the dust of Saudi Arabia disappear?

The year 2023 is considered the lowest recorded number of dust incidents since 2003, as the efforts of the environment, water and agriculture system and the “Saudi Green Initiative” contributed to combating dust and sand storms and reducing their effects, with the aim of achieving a sustainable environment in accordance with the goals of “Saudi Vision 2030”.

Abdullah Al-Misnad, Vice President of the Weather and Climate Society, confirmed that dust storms in Saudi Arabia have become fewer in the last three years, as no significant sandstorm was recorded in Riyadh and other regions during the year 2023. He explained that the efforts of “Saudi Vision 2030” in addressing environmental deterioration By expanding the spread of natural reserves, which now cover 14% of the area of Saudi Arabia, and the succession of rainy seasons, in addition to the weakness of cold and warm air fronts, all factors contributed to this decline.

Al-Misnad pointed out that dust storms are a natural phenomenon that occurs in many parts of the world, and their occurrence cannot be completely prevented, but their effects can be reduced by taking preventive steps, such as expanding natural reserves and implementing the “Saudi Green Initiative.”
