Arabia Weather - The number of deaths as a result of the strong earthquake that struck Ishikawa Prefecture and neighboring areas in central Japan on New Year's Day has increased to 200 people, and about 100 others remain missing, according to local authorities reports issued today, Tuesday.
Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that local police had launched large-scale searches in the Wajima area, where a massive fire broke out as a result of the 7.6-magnitude earthquake.
More than 28,000 people are still resorting to shelters in Ishikawa Prefecture, with approximately ten cases of coronavirus infection recorded in three locations in one of the towns. Meanwhile, about 3,300 people, mostly in Wajima Prefecture and the neighboring city of Suzu, remain isolated due to closed roads.
