Arab Weather - Weather experts at the Arab Weather Center said that the latest outputs from global computer models specializing in the movement of weather systems and places of rainfall indicate that large areas of the Mediterranean region and Africa will be affected by weather disturbances characterized by momentum and intensity during the coming days and weeks, and are represented in the form of weather disturbances that bring heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms that accompany the expected strong thunderstorms.
God willing, the European continent is expected to be affected by part of the regional weather disturbances with unstable weather conditions, as a result of the passage of cold upper basins that coincide with the warming of the surface of the Mediterranean Sea and the warming of the lower layers of the atmosphere. As a result, unstable weather conditions will arise over large countries in southern Europe, including Spain, France, and the Balkan countries in general, especially Italy and Greece, where heavy thunderclouds are formed with towering vertical growth in the atmosphere, accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in large to huge sizes, which causes damage to property, in addition to the formation of floods and rising water levels.
In the same context, weather forecasters at the Arab Weather Center said that the Maghreb countries in general, and Algeria in particular, are set to see severe weather disturbances in the coming days, coinciding with the passage of cold upper waves across southern Europe. As a result, convective thunderclouds will become active in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. The clouds will be strong, God willing, and will be accompanied by descending winds, heavy rains and sometimes large hailstorms. As a result, valleys and ravines will flow, torrents will form and water levels will rise in several areas.
Thick convective clouds continue to form over large parts of Africa, accompanied by heavy rainfall, which increases the difficult weather conditions experienced by many countries in Africa. This increases the risk of flooding, especially with the nature of the desert soil, which does not absorb rainwater easily and has been saturated with water since the previous tropical wave.
The African continent is receiving huge amounts of rain in the coming weeks, deviating from its average by about 300-500%, and exceeding 500% in some areas. The African Sahara, the driest region in the world, is also witnessing heavy rainfall, as weather disturbances are active daily, especially in the afternoon hours, and gradually intensify in the evening. Thick thunderclouds form, and the rain is sometimes heavy, accompanied by hail and sudden strong winds. The African Sahara is expected to receive large amounts of rain in the coming period compared to the annual average of rain in those areas.
Forecasters at the Arab Weather Center indicated that readings from advanced computer modeling, which shows the temperature of water bodies, indicate that the Mediterranean Sea, like other water bodies, is witnessing a significant rise in the temperature of the water surface, as the temperature of some parts, especially in its center, reaches 31 degrees Celsius, which is a relatively hot and unusual temperature for the Mediterranean Sea, even breaking the record recorded in 2023 for the same month, in which the water temperature reached about 30 degrees Celsius ( details ).
Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center said that the rise in the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea leads to increased evaporation processes, which increases the humidity of the air above the sea. This humid air can cause the formation of dense clouds and thunderstorms during the fall season while crossing cold upper basins. Also, the large differences in temperatures between the sea and the adjacent land can enhance the ascending and descending air currents, which increases atmospheric instability during the fall season.
God knows best.
