Weather of Arabia - Chest disease consultant, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Al-Tarawneh, warned of the spread of West Nile fever in the region and the possibility of the infection reaching Jordan, especially after infections were recorded in the West Bank.
Tarawneh pointed to reports of West Nile virus cases in Spain, Italy and other countries in Europe, which raised concerns after warnings from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. The virus may be deadly, as 153 cases of infection were announced in occupied Palestine, the death of 11 people, and the first case of infection recorded in Palestine.

He stressed that people over the age of 50 are more susceptible to the disease, and that a small percentage of those infected may suffer from serious nerve infections.
Human infection usually occurs as a result of the bites of mosquitoes carrying the virus, which acquire the infection from infected birds. The virus can also be transmitted through contact with other animals carrying it, or through contact with their blood or tissues.
Tarawneh stressed the importance of developing comprehensive programs to monitor and control mosquitoes in areas where the virus is widespread. Emphasis must be placed on integrated control measures such as:
Tarawneh asked about the plans of the National Center for Epidemics Control regarding monitoring the disease, studies related to the presence of the disease carrier in Jordan, and communication with the Ministry of Agriculture and Health to deal with any emergency in the event of the disease appearing.
