Weather of Arabia - The head of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Captain Haitham Mesto, confirmed, on Saturday, that there have been delays on a number of incoming and outgoing flights to Queen Alia Airport, due to the heavy dust that affects areas in Jordan.

Mesto told "The Kingdom", that "some delays" occurred due to "the fluctuation of visibility due to dust, but some planes landed, and some other planes are still flying in the airspace of Queen Alia Airport, waiting to be allowed to land."

And "in general, the procedures for the arrival and departure of planes depend on minimum limits of visibility," according to Mesto, who continued: "Departing and arriving planes adhere to these minimum limits, and if the visibility is less than the minimum, the planes do not attempt to land and remain waiting."

He explained: "In the event that dust is formed, the situation is not stable, and it usually changes from one minute to another, but it is currently approximately ranged at the 300-meter range, which is the minimum allowed," explaining that "the process of landing aircraft includes criteria and limitations of visibility. Aircraft that wish to descend must be within the permissible visibility of the aircraft and the airport.

And the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority "gives weather information to incoming planes and gives directions to them to allow landing or wait according to procedures and limitations," according to Mesti, stressing that "the movement of planes is regular and high for arrival and departure."
